Outliers | 06/03/2020 | Malcolm Gladwell | Personal Development | Elliott Oshoko | Outlier's clarified my thoughts that success is not just about innate ability and that genius is over-rated. I vividly remember listening to this book while jogging on the seafront and being blown away by the 10'000 hour rule and case studies about the Beatles and Bill Gates which show how their success was attained through practice and tenacity. |
Sovereignty | 07/03/2020 | Ryan Michler | Personal Development | Ben Connolly 🤠 | The biggest issue with the Male population of modern society is that they have forgotten their role as men and live with lawless abandon, in turn pushing them to never truly feel fulfilled and enabling a depressive state. If men choose to take a difficult path and "show up" for themselves, their friends and families by living by a "Code of Conduct" they can achieve so much more than they realise |

Tremayne: Positive is not always good and negative isn't always bad. And the devil (negative energy) gives you clear answers on how to avoid |

The 4-Hour Workweek | 11/03/2020 | Tim Ferriss | Business | Elliott Oshoko | I read the 4 hour workweek while in the early stages of setting up my marketing agency, Tim lays out a wide range of practical solutions, ideas and frameworks for running a business which I still use now 5 years later. Some of the key takeaways were: •Time and freedom are your most valuable and ireplaceable assets. •Practice selective ignorance to things that will not benefit you. •Always mitigate risk where possible. •Only do what matters by applying the 'pareto principle'. •Do what you fear most, it is usually what you most need to do. |
How to Own the World: A Plain English Guide to Thinking Globally and Investing Wisely | 12/03/2020 | Andrew Craig | Finances | Amara Kamara 📚 | Financial knowledge on building wealth. |
Evolve your brain | 12/03/2020 | Joe Dispenza | Personal development | Shaul_ben_tsedek | my greatest takeaway from this is that we dont have to continue the same path throughout our life all it takes is effort and repitition to create new better pathways within your mind and become the you that you want to be, i also recieved a far greater understanding of the anatomy of the brain and why we do the things we continue to do. joe dispenza breaks down the physiology of the brain so well you cannot help but to develop a greater understanding of yourself and realise that your flaws are perfectly capable of being unprogrammed if you want to make that change, and that te mind is just a tool like any computer for your conciousness to utilise. |

UNLIMITED POWER | 10/04/2020 | Anthony Robbins | Personal development | Klara 👩⚕️ | Tony guides you through numerous habit building strategies and concepts which can help you reach your full potential in any aspect of your life whether you want to work on your relationships, career, health, an addiction, past trauma etc. In this book different perspectives and ideas are presented to show how success is achievable, and how to alter your state of mind so you can make changes and produce results whilst reading the book. I used this book in my journey to becoming a more confident speaker which improved my public speaking skills, university presentations and interview skills. I also wanted to achieve this because in my job as a nurse, I must be a competent communicator when discussing medical information with other healthcare professionals and I must give patients and their families confidence in my ability as a nurse. By applying Tony’s success habit building strategies, I have been able to overcome my fear of speaking in groups and to those who I used to feel inferior to. The main idea I have taken away from his book is how we can change our physiology and in turn, our state of mind to reproduce successful results. Tony speaks about NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) which can be achieved through learning different strategies to achieve personal goals. Examples include modelling and changing our internal representations then looking at how we can use this to produce a more resourceful state of mind. I found these to be a very powerful mind-altering tools which are easily applied alongside numerous strategies found throughout the book. |
Principles | 13/04/2020 | Ray Dalio | Personal development | Elliott oshoko | Ray Dalio is a global macro investor, philanthropist and founder of bridgewater associates which is currently the largest hedge fund management company in the world in terms of assets under management. However this book isn't just about investing, Ray carefully and comprehensibly lays out the 'principles' which he has applied throughout his life which involve trancendental meditation, self reflection, emotional intelligence, neurochemistry, philanthropy and more. I have read this book a few times and often dip in and out of it. I have many takeaways from it, but my single biggest takeaway has been the principle of "Radical open mindedness". As part of being radically open minded you must sincerely believe that you might not know the best possible path and recognize that your ability to deal well with “not knowing” is more important than whatever it is you do know. This has helped me to understand that in order to gain the perspective that comes from seeing things through another's eyes you must suspend your judgement and preconceptions momentarily. By internalizing this way of thinking it allows me to be more open minded and go through life looking for the best answers, rather than the answers which fit my perspective and cognitive biases. |
Breaking the habit of being yourself | 15/04/2020 | Dr Joe Dispenza | Personal development | Oana | The influence of thought on the external material world. Step by step tools for meditation to deal with emotional trauma or bad habits. Amazing book! |
Meditations | 19/04/2020 | Marcus Aurelius | Stoicism | Elliott Oshoko | Meditations is a collection of writings from the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius - It's filled with reflections which he wrote for himself for the purpose of meditating on (Hence the name of the book). It isn't structured like your usual book in which you read it front to back. I like to dip in and out of it and read a few of the entries and see how his reflections relate to my own life, or situations or perspectives (even though it was written in 161 to 180 AD). There have been days that I've been ruminating on a problem, I've picked up meditations and flicked through it and found passages which have given me a new perspective for the problem. I've gained many insights from this book however each individuals experience with it will be incredibly subjective so I'd recommend that you grab a copy for yourself and see what you find. |
Can't Hurt Me | 23/04/2020 | David Goggins | Personal Development | Thomas Cochrane | An incredible insight to the life of one of the hardest working, self motivated, Navy Seal/ultra athlete's the world has ever seen. From stories of early childhood violence, cold-blooded murder and racism, David Goggins uses his troubled life to show you how you can become anything you put your mind to. Goggins went from being a shy, illiterate, black child that ran away with his mother from an abusive father, living his teenage years in a predominantly racist community, to one day "flicking the switch", losing 106 pounds in less than three months to reach the threshold for Navy Seal consideration, then becoming one of the most successful Navy Seals in history, and becoming an ultra athlete, winning and competing in some of the hardest sporting events known to man. He became the master of self-motivation, starting from the darkness in his earlier life, to propel himself through any challenge he saw in his wake. Throughout this book he shows you what it takes to become the motivated person you wish to be, taking you along side him as he relives his journey in words. Having family members shot dead, finishing 100 mile races on broken legs, watching fellow friends drown during training, going through heart surgeries, setting Guinness World Record's and much more are all in this movie-like, true life story of an inspirational hero. This book is great for anyone who wishes to break down those walls of mediocrity that are holding you back from unleashing your true self and becoming the master of your own mind. It's also for anyone that wants the motivation to step out of their comfort zone in not only physical exercise, but your job situation, where you live and how you go about your everyday life. |
